Transitioning fall pieces into winter

Although technically it is fall until December 21st, who are we kidding to say that this Midwest weather doesn’t look, feel, and smell like winter. If you’re anything like me and went a little purchase crazy on fall trends, you might be realizing that the camel colored sweater you bought doesn’t quite vibe with the newly stark white surroundings as well as it did with the warm browns and reds of autumn. Have no fear, a few simple changes can turn your look frigid temperature friendly.

I recently ordered this whole outfit in the mail (scarf, turtleneck, and jeans). I planned on getting it before thanksgiving, so I could be all festive and such over break, but no such luck. Next thing I know it’s snowing and these thanksgiving ready clothes were close to serving me little purpose, aside from using the turtleneck to hide my double chin ☹.

I brainstormed, took a trip to target express for the darkest lipstick I could find, and as Tim Gunn would say, made it work. In order to transition the look from focusing on warm tones to cool tones I paired the red, green, and camel in the scarf/turtleneck/purse with a black free people jacket, nearly black lipstick, and black H&M booties. The dark features in the outfit add edge and take focus away from the blatantly fall pieces. The look is completed with a low bun and pearl ear-jacket earrings.

Comfy cozy tip: Buy extra large scarfs so they can double as shawls or blankies for when you take your jacket off!!!
